About the artist

Hello there!  I'm Tina Hickman, dog groomer, private pilot, archer, and artist.  I've been drawing since I was a kid, and my life is made all the richer for it.  My preferred medium is pastels.  I do a lot of portrait artistry, whether it be animals, people, or favorite objects.  I accept commission work and maintain an online portfolio on Flickr.  I'm happy to answer any questions you may have!  Email me with questions, comments, or just to chat!

Accolades

"Tethered Tiercel"

"Tethered Tiercel" won first place in October, 2015 in a monthly art contest sponsored by Facebook group Artist Reference Photos.  "Tethered Tiercel" was featured as the profile picture for the same group for the following month.  A tiercel is a male falcon, especially a peregrine falcon like this one.

"Tethered Tiercel" has been sold, and it hangs in Edmond, OK.

"Last Light"

"Last Light" is a portrait of a male ring-necked pheasant which took second place in the Pheasant Stamp Design Contest sponsored by the Wisconsin DNR in 2015.  "Last Light" was featured with the other winners at the 2015 Wisconsin State Faire for ten days.

"Last Light" is currently for sale.

"Pears"

"Pears" is the only still life I have drawn in the last thirty years.  It took first place in a monthly contest sponsored by the Facebook group Reference Photos for Artists - 2 against about 25 other competing pieces from the same reference photo.  "Pears" won by popular vote and was featured as the group cover photo for the next month.

"Pears" is currently for sale.

"Out of the Shadows"

"Out of the Shadows" took first place in a monthly art competition sponsored by Artist Reference Photos in December, 2014.  It was featured as the cover photo for the group for the month of January, 2015.  It is a portrait of Cocoa, a beautiful black cat who lives in South Africa.  You can buy Tshirts with the "Out of the Shadows" design at my CafePress store.

"Out of the Shadows" is not for sale.

"Lobo"

"Lobo" won first place in 2014 competing against about 85 other pieces in a contest sponsored by Mexican Gray Wolves to help raise money to help preserve the Mexican Wolf.  Money was raised, in part, by selling T-shirts, and the logo was used for well over a year to help represent and further the cause of the Mexican Grey Wolves.  Although that organization no longer sells Tshirts with "Lobo" printed on it, you can still buy one through my CafePress store.

"Lobo" is not for sale.

"Pheasant"

"Pheasant" took fifth place in the Wisconsin DNR Pheasant Stamp Design Contest in 2014.  It is a study of a male ring-necked pheasant in the tall grass of its native habitat.

"Pheasant" is currently for sale.
